Sit down and shut up
Step 0112 Days of Silence1,400 m / 4,593 ft
You are the most interesting person in every room you walk into, and you have never once been left alone with whatever is holding that up.
You fly into Kathmandu and go up into the hills and within an hour nobody knows your name. That is not a detail — that is the product. Nobody to perform for. No photograph being taken. No version of you that anyone here has any use for.
Twelve days. No speaking, no eye contact, no screens, no books, not even a notebook to be clever in. Up before four. Sit. The days are longer than any amount of money has ever made a day for you, and somewhere in the first week you will work out that you have been buying your way out of exactly this since you were about nineteen.
Here is what you already know and have never said. The problem was never supply. You could get anything, anywhere, at any hour, and you did, and it stopped working somewhere around the second year, and you kept going anyway — because stopping meant sitting still.
So sit still. That is the entire step. Twelve days is nothing. You have spent longer than that in worse rooms for far less reason, and at the end of this one you will own something you did not pay for.
There isn’t one. This step does not go up. You sit at 1,400 m for twelve days and the altitude at the end is the altitude at the start.
One bar, because there is one altitude. That is the message and not a gap in the chart: this step does not go up, so the air has nothing to thin it.
The valley floor runs roughly 1,300–1,400 m; 1,400 m is the figure sources round to for the city. Nothing is climbed, so there is no profile to draw.
Kathmandu Valley, 1,400 m: the air is 85% of what it is at sea level, and nothing in this step takes it lower.
Do the detox first, with a doctor, properly. Coming off alcohol or benzodiazepines without medical supervision can kill you and no mountain is worth that. Twelve days of silence is also genuinely destabilising in early recovery, and any centre worth attending will want you stable before they take you.

Twelve days you spend alone. He does not sit in the room — the room is the point. He is the reason you walk in on the first morning and the first face on the twelfth, and whatever you carry out is the material for the rest of the year.
